Organic honey from the area of Lake Kerkini. Dark colored with strong aroma and fruity liquorice flavor.
TASTE: sweet, leaves a fruity liquorices/liquor flavor.
COLOUR: reddish brown during the collection, dark hues when jarred.
COLLECTION AREA: Kerkini Lake (Central Macedonia) - Greece
COMMENTS: strong, as the chestnut honey, a small quantity of this suffices in other honeys (e.g. pine honey) to give its fragrance and taste. This quite rare honey is becoming very popular amongst Greek and other European customers in recent years. This is because it is rich in enzymes (excellent for the stomach), especially in folic acid (a B complex vitamin, essential to the organism). Everything started when a Dutch study was published in the scientific journal EUROPEAN HEART JOURNAL which highlighted the importance of folic acid for the human organism. If we consider the fact that in many countries, food enriched with folic acid is available (already the British Nutrition Foundation announced that after USA and Canada will start enriching bread or flour with folic acid) than we realize the value of this honey, as we should never forget that the best way for folic acid enrichment is via nutrition.
